My Ideal Garden Class - Shorty’s Garden & Home

Shorty's SignA friend told me about a “My Ideal Garden Class” sponsored by Shorty’s Garden & Home. Since I would like to figure out what to do with my runaway yard, I agreed to go. I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t a real class; which is what it turned out to be. And a very informative class it was. You don’t want to be late because it starts on time!

Jeff Naramor, owner of America the Beautiful Landscape Design and a Certified Professional Horticultist, is the instructor for this two hour free class. He provides a small workbook which covers everything from who lives in your house and what type of contact they have with the yard to figuring out a plan of action for making your dream garden a reality.

Park Like Setting

This was not a dull boring class like those you used to attend in high school. There were quite a few questions from the students and many shared stories of yards still in the process of becoming that “dream garden” which brought lots of laughter from the group. There were suggestions for ridding the yard of unwanted trees, places to take plants which had gotten too big for the yard, even a discussion on how to install a path yourself. Though the class had structure, it was not rigid; and the time went quickly.

Check in with Shorty’s at http://www.shortysgardenandhome.com/?cid=893 to find out what their next free seminar is and when it will be held. Shorty’s is located almost at the corner of Mill Plain Blvd and SE 98th Avenue, 10006 SE Mill Plain, a right turn coming from the east into their lot, or a left turn at 98th if coming from the west. Since I came from 98th I crossed Mill Plain, went about a block, took a right and went in the back way. (I don’t believe you can cross the meridian in front of Shorty’s coming from the west.)
