Craft Day at Michaels’ Craft Store-Vancouver, WA

Day falls on the sleepy little town of boredom, children cry in boredom, Mom’s weep in frustration. Ok so maybe that is not what the day was like for you but in my house you never know. So we find Mighty Mom and Monks in their lair waiting for today’s adventure.
The adventure leads them to Michael’s Craft Store. Michael’s is located at 16601 SE Mill Plain Blvd. The C-TRAN #37 Mill Plain can get you really close to the store.
Michael’s has craft events on Saturdays for kids. The great thing is that the events cost only $5.00 and are geared towards kids skills. The events normally run from 10:00AM to 12:00Noon. They also have a great classroom where they teach the classes.
Today’s class was called the “Yarn Cake Slice”, now as Monks would say don’t eat it, it’s only pretend. First step is to start out with a piece of styrofoam that will take on the shape of the cake, then you add different colors of yarn to make the cake and frosting you like best. They had kits already for the kids to use with the yarn and styrofoam. Monks wanted a chocolate cake, so we chose brown.

The teacher from Michael’s was very helpful and very hands on. I did help out some too, I mean you have to cut the yarn to fit and artist can’t waste their time doing all that cutting. So I would cut Monks would glue it to the styrofoam to get it all together. This can be a little messy, all great art can be. So don’t surprised if the kids get some glue on them, it does wash off. Monks had lots of fun and it was worth the $5.00.

Their schedule shows events going on all November and December except after the Saturdays following the holidays. So if you need somewhere warm and fun, come see us at Michaels. We’ll be waiting and hope to see you there.
