Westmoreland Park duck feeding, Portland, OR

little bridgeI found this place while riding the bus home from work. The bus is often a strange, chaotic place, filled to the brim with elderly, drugged-out, socially inept, and mentally deranged individuals, not to mention a few polite businessmen in nice suits. I think it proved a pleasant distraction when I glanced out the window and saw the little Eden at 23rd and Bybee. Read the rest of Westmoreland Park duck feeding, Portland, OR »

Walking in Orchards County Park - Vancouver

I love the bright colors of Spring emerging from the bareness of winter. Spring fever motivates me to explore the outdoors. A recent visit to my doctors office provided a colorful brochure about walking trails in Vancouver. I have been encouraged to get more active. I planned to start with an easy walk then to gradually increase to more challenging paths. Walking is a simple exercise, requiring no equipment purchase, that eventually becomes a clothes rack. After reading the entire brochure, I decide to choose the easiest, and closest walk, in nearby Orchards County Park. Read the rest of Walking in Orchards County Park - Vancouver »

Vancouver–Clark College’s cherry trees

Clark College from MacLoughlin BlvdAnother beautiful walk in Old Town Vancouver! I’ve known about Clark College for a long time, but the walking paths were a new discovery for me.
You can follow this map of the paths both on campus and across the street, where you can walk around the tennis courts and the baseball and soccer fields. The map even tells you how long your walk will be. Read the rest of Vancouver–Clark College’s cherry trees »

Vancouver’s Oldest Apple Tree

Vancouver's Oldest Apple TreeThe Old Apple Tree Park is located at 112 Columbia Way and is scheduled to host a festival the first week in October from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm after a two-year hiatus. It used to be that a trip to see the Old Apple Tree was, if not for it’s age, boring; at least for me. It was planted near the old Fort in 1826 when Hudson’s Bay Governor, Sir George Simpson, was given the seeds from an apple eaten at a farewell dinner and asked to plant them. The tree bore its first fruit, one apple, in 1830. It is thought to be the oldest apple tree in Washington. Read the rest of Vancouver’s Oldest Apple Tree »

My 2 1/2 year old daughter, Goldie and I have been having a blast for the past few Saturday mornings by participating in a mommy and me dance class through Portland Parks at the Mt. You can either park on the street on 72nd near the front entrance or go around to Harold street for the back parking lot and rear doors. You will see a really cool mural on the wall and know you are in the right spot! Read the rest of Dance Class for Toddlers-Portland »

Walking Vancouver’s Renaissance Trail

Vancouver's Renaissance TrailWith the sun on our backs and a picnic lunch in the cooler, my daughter and I delighted in a walk on the first warm, sunny day of spring along the Columbia River on Vancouver’s Waterfront Renaissance Trail.
