Running Vancouver’s Waterfront - Nice!

View from Vancouver WaterfrontWhat a great day for a run, and the Vancouver Waterfront is the perfect place! It was calm day after a period of rain showers, only a few more people had the same idea as I today. If you’ve never taken a run or walk along Vancouver’s waterfront, it’s definitely worth the trip! It’s one of my favorite spots to run in Vancouver. While I’m not sure of the exact distance both ways, it’s about a 30 minute run for me (an average speed runner). I started up near Esther Short Park so it was a bit longer. Read the rest of Running Vancouver’s Waterfront - Nice! »

Vancouver Community Library (main library)

Vancouver Community LibraryGoing to the library is an excellent way to spend time for our family, especially with a second grader who has become a voracious little reader. One of the first things we did when we moved to Vancouver, WA was make a trip to the library to get new library cards and check out the materials. Cascade Park Picnic Lunch, Vancouver, WA

cascade parkI promised “Layla” I would take her to a park today but first I wanted to walk to the bank and then stop by Freddy’s for a picnic lunch treat, in this case a Mounds candy bar we could split.

Back at home we get our lunch ready, bundle up Layla and Mystie and head for the park. Today I’ve chosen Cascade Park at 13003 SE 7th, however, I usually head north from McGillivray Boulevard because the park is easier to reach from Laver Street. Officers row VancouverDo you like to get outdoors now, while the trees are turning green and the birds are learning to sing again? That’s the way I feel, too, and I found a great place for walking this weekend; along Officers Row in Old Town Vancouver. There are paved paths, mostly level, and all of them accessible to strollers or wheelchairs. There’s parking across the street. Read the rest of Vancouver Officers Row–beautiful and historic »

Evergreen Highway Walk & Drive Wildlife Tour

The Tour Begins, Old Evergreen Highway, Vancouver, WAAs a co-parent whose daughter lives in east county, I love to take the “old” Evergreen Highway at the foot of Ellesworth Road, when taking her home. Sometimes we stop at the fish hatchery and walk back to Ellesworth on a wonderfully wide flat sidewalk with Mistie, our Yorkie. The area is wild enough to make you feel you are in the wilderness but surrounded by homes. You can see the river, watch trains go by, smell the fragrant “skunk cabbage”, and occasionally see trillium in bloom. Read the rest of Evergreen Highway Walk & Drive Wildlife Tour »
